The Piano Studio

John E. van der Brook

The Piano Studio of John E. van der Brook

A highly successful teacher for over 30 years, Mr. van der Brook first began teaching in Michigan, then to American Military students in Germany, and finally settling in Olympia. His formal piano studies were with Ola Krudener, Henry Harris (MSU), and George Lucktenburg (ICA). Post graduate studies were with N. Jane Tan & Seymour Bernstein, both Steinway Artists. He holds both BA & MS degrees. His teaching Certification is from the American College of Musicians. Mr. van der Brook is an active member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers, MTNA and the Olympia Music Teachers Association.

Students routinely win National and International Awards in the National Piano Playing Auditions.  In 2005, student Paul Kim earned the Raissa Tselentis Bach International Scholarship Award.   Again, in 2013, student Casey Yu earned the Raissa Tselentis Bach Scholarship.   It's believed that this is the only Studio to have ever earned this prestigious award twice!
